Camel yarn!

Another of the Natural Dye Studio yarns we have in the shop is called Scheherazade. Scheherazade is a totally stunning luxury yarn, it is both soft and smooth and will have an amazing drape I’m sure.

It is an unusual blend of fibres: 65% silk and 35% baby camel – yes camel!

We currently have a skein in 10 different shades available, so why not treat yourself to a skein for a special project, or as a present for a friend?

A bit of sparkle with Stardust

We had a delivery last week from The Natural Dye Studio which included some of the most luxurious yarns I’ve ever had in the shop.

Stardust is a lovely soft DK wool, with a shimmer of silk and lightly speckled with flecks of star dust!  It is made from 75% merino wool, 20% silk, 5% sparkle!  It has lovely stitch definition which looks especially good with cables.

Rowan Kidsilk Creation

Rowan Kidsilk Creation is a limited edition yarn from Rowan who have taken their best selling yarn, Kidsilk Haze and made a yarn that has a tubular net construction. Kidsilk Haze is 70% super kid mohair and 30% silk and the scarf is as light as a feather!

The colours have been selected from the favourite shades of Kidsilk Haze cream, dewberry, trance, candy girl, jelly and smoke. Using a special technique one 50g hank will knit or crochet this Kidsilk Creation scarf.

Our video shows you how.

A new scarf yarn – Sirdar Bohemia

If you’re not a fan of the Can Can or Loopy yarns but would still like to make a quick and easy scarf, either for yourself or as a gift, why not have a look at the new Sirdar Bohemia yarn.  Here’s a drop stitch scarf that I made last week:

sirdar bohemia scarf

This super chunky yarn comes in 6 really nice mixed shades and the suggestion on the ball band is to knit a drop stitch scarf using massive 20mm needles.  Have a look at all the shades on our shop website.

If you don’t know how to knit a drop stitch scarf then we’ve created a short video which explains what to do.

Rowan Kidsilk Haze comes in stripes!

If you love knitting with Rowan Kidsilk Haze, then you are going to find it hard to resist Rowan’s new offering – Kidsilk Haze Stripe – a stripy version with colours put together by the King of Colour, Kaffe Fassett.

Kidsilk Haze Stripe is available is 6 different shades and can be used in any kidsilk haze pattern as it is exactly the same gauge.

When you see the price of the yarn, you may gasp and think that it is too expensive, but it is in fact a 50g ball, whereas Kidsilk Haze normally comes in 25g balls.  So you are getting twice as much yarn!

One ball will knit a scarf like this which has moss stitch edging:

Instructions are on the inside of the ball band.

Sirdar Smiley Stripes new shades and a new book

Sirdar’s Smiley Stripes yarn was very popular with our customers this summer and we’re delighted that Sirdar have published a second pattern book with designs for children aged 0 to 7 years.

They’re mainly easy designs including simple hoodies and cardies for boys and the easiest blankets imaginable. For little girls there are pretty little cardies with a little shaping and touches of lace. These designs look adorable on babies and trendy on older children too.

There are also 4 new shades of the Smiley Stripes yarn too.

Rico Can Can Glitz

If you liked knitting with Rico’s Can Can yarn, then I’m sure you will love the new version for this Autumn, called Can Can Glitz. Many other brands have launched their own version of a glittery Can Can type scarf yarn this season too, but I do feel that this one is the best. The glitter isn’t just an add-on, it’s actually part of the yarn itself.

rico can can glitz yarn

It comes in 8 different shades and knits up on 7-8mm needles, in just the same way. However it is worth noting that these glittery shades are only 150g balls (45m). So if you are used to knitting 2 scarves from a 200g (60m) ball of original Can Can, then you will need to make the scarves a bit smaller and narrower if you want to do the same.

If you don’t know how to knit with Can Can yarn, then do watch our video on knitting with Can Can yarn.
