Debbie Bliss Magazine Autumn/Winter 2011
The latest issue of the Debbie Bliss magazine has been delivered. This issue contains 26 new knitting patterns, not found in any of her other pattern books.
If you don’t feel like leaping into any major projects at the moment, have a look at the knits in Feel the Wrapture – six pieces to enfold yourself in, most of which won’t take you too many evenings to knit up. Similarly, the pretty little tops in ‘Party Girls’ will take you next to no time to complete; worked in my beautiful angel mohair, they will be light on your lap as well.

Knitting Traditions Winter 2011
Also in yesterday’s big box from Interweave were copies of Knitting Traditions. Knitting Traditions is a special issue magazine, published just once a year and which takes you around the world and across the centuries to spotlight knitting’s rich historical context. This special second edition is chock-full of 45 projects knitters will love!
In this colorful, project-packed second edition, readers will learn how to shag mittens, follow in the footsteps of knitters from ancient civilizations to today’s top designers, discover one method practiced in cultures as diverse as Andean and Portuguese, examine exquisite 18-century knitted carpets, explore the life of a Victorian knitwear designer, and 19th-century outlaws who knitted lace while serving prison terms.
You’ll explore lace, color, texture, and the timeless beauty of knitting with:
- Projects from around the world- including Latvian fingerless mitts, and a Morroccan-inspired felted and embroidered backpack.
- Techniques- the story behind some of knitting’s more obscure techniques, such as—to cite only two—haute couture designer Elsa Schiaparelli’s “Armenian knitting” and shagging, and a New England knitters’ method of adding resilience and warmth to mittens and gloves.
- Mittens galore- including colorwork mittens from Paistu, Estonia and Rosesaum mittens of Norway.
- And so much more!

Knitscene Winter/Spring 2011
Starting this year, Knitscene will be released quarterly. That means a new issue every three months! Interweave has been dreaming up more fashion themes, more tutorials, and more photoshoot ideas than ever.
To start the year off, the Knitscene Winter/Spring issue features some really cool new designers, an array of unusual constructions, and pretty little knits that make a fashion statement.
Knitscene editor Lisa Shroyer says:
We’ve searched the globe for the coolest in simple knitting and made a stop in the Baltic—check out the Magnanimity Cardi from Finnish designer Veera Välimäki and the Scandinavian styling of the colorwork projects in “Don’t Steek Me.” We looked for the finest in plant-blend yarns and found unusual combos: cotton and alpaca, flax and wool, and more. Lustrous silks, seed beads, bits of lace and light—they put sparkle in your winter and also transition into spring with ease.
We looked to knitwear trends for Spring and saw lots of one-piece dolman styles, just like Melissa Wehrle’s Chiton Pullover (named after the draped and pinned dress of Ancient Greeks). We found menswear references, just like the styling of Debbie O’Neill’s designer collection. Folk and Boho elements remain strong—perennial influences on the Knitscene look and feel.
Beyond the projects, you’ll find tutorials on custom raglan sleeves, using art yarns, styling your handknits, how to avoid steeks in colorwork, and some lively illustrations.
