Rico Superba Bamboo – a new sock yarn
Rico Superba Bamboo is a new sock yarn from Rico. Made from 50% merino, 25% polyamide and 25% bamboo, it is one of the softest self-striping sock yarns that I’ve come across and I can’t wait to make a pair of socks with it (once I’ve finished all my other WIPs!)
It has a lovely sheen to it and comes in some really wearable shades. At £7 a ball, it’s not a bad price for sock yarn either.

Harry Potter sock yarn
Have you seen Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince yet? I went at the weekend and loved it! I particularly liked the reference Dumbledore made to knitting – look out for it if you’re going to see the movie!
If you’re a Harry Potter fan too, then you might fancy knitting a pair of socks with this special Harry Potter sock yarn.

Opal worked closely with Warner Bros. to create a sock yarn line that commemorates the release of the “Half-Blood Prince” movie and the colours are inspired by the main characters.
Supplies of the Harry Potter sock is limited and we don’t have much left. A free basic sock pattern is included in all sock yarn purchases and you only need one ball to make a pair of adult sized socks.

Knit Pro Sock Blockers
Knitting socks has never been more popular than it is at the moment and if you’re a regular sock knitter you might be interested to know that we are now stocking Sock Blockers from Knit Pro.

What’s a sock blocker?
Blocking is a technique that knitters use once, they’ve finished knitting garment. It involves wetting or dampening the item and then pinning it into the correct size and shape and allowing it to dry. It evens out the stiches and helps the pieces to lie flat. Just leaving socks to dry flat won’t necessarily give you a nice finish and pinning out socks to the correct shape isn’t ideal, so a sock blocker is a foot shaped object that you insert into your socks when you want to block them. It allows the sock to dry in a proper sock shape!
You don’t have to use sock blockers, but if you are giving the socks as a gift or if you’ve knitted a pair of heavily textured (i.e. cabled or lace) socks, blockers are a nice way to give them a uniform look.
These Knit Pro sock blockers come in three different sizes and are made from eco-friendly materials extracted from processed wood pulp. They are very sturdy and at the same time highly flexible.
