The Natural Dye Studio yarns

In 2011 we aim to expand our yarn ranges and the next range to be added is a wide variety of yarns from the Natural Dye Studio.

The Natural Dye Studio exclusively uses historical plant dyes which produce an astounding spectrum of beautiful subtle colour. Their aim is to produce desirable luxury yarns in as ethical and enviromentally friendly way as possible.

All the yarns are sourced through British suppliers.  Their Blue Faced Leicester is farmed in the UK and is sold to the British Wool Marketing Board. Natural Dye Studio are licensed by the BWM to carry their woolmark, which certifies that the origin of the wool is the UK. Their Mohair is also UK grown.

All the exotic yarns apart from silk are grown and spun in a family owned mill in Peru.

Their yarns include a DK, 4 Ply, 2 Ply and even a 1 Ply lace yarn. They are just superb!

Felting wool from Rico Design

Some customers have been asking us about wool that is suitable for felting, so I thought I would mention the felting wool we are now stocking.  This wool is from Rico Design and is called Creative Filz.  It’s a chunky yarn made from 100% merino wool which is knitted using 8mm needles.  It comes in some really gorgeous colours (like many of the Rico yarns).

What is felting?

Felting is the process when the fibres in wool become so tangled and matted that they form a sort of fabric: felt.  Wool will felt when you apply heat and agitation.  So if you knit something in this wool and then put it in the washing machine, the hot water, detergent and the agitation caused by the washing machine tossing the item around, will cause the item to shrink and felt.

Welcome to Hulu online yarn and fabric shop

Welcome to Hulu – the UK’s newest online yarn and fabric shop.

Setting up the business has been a real delight although it’s been extremely hard to choose which yarns, fabrics and knitting patterns to stock. If there’s something you’re looking for that we don’t have, we would be most delighted to order it in for you.
